Last Saturday, I had this thing called EMG (Electromyography) in Sumber Waras Hospital. When I got there with my dad, we got confused to find where the EMG area is, because there are many corridors in this hospital. This was my second or third time to be there (so was my dad), and it’s still creepy with all the old buildings and architecture. Fortunately we came there in the morning *LOL* and it’s still bright enough to wander. After about 10 minutes, finally we found the place where we headed. Then there was the machine called EMG!! I don’t know exactly what this is, but I know that we use it to examine our nerves :)
I came here coz my physician told me to. I’ve been into chronic fatigue lately, feeling very exhausted in my body especially around the neck and shoulders. Moreover, headache came easily whenever I got stressed and I also had this tingling sensation in my feet quite often.
Back to the machine, it’s a very simple box with wires that are attached to our hands. It looks like Electrocardiography if you have ever heard of it (to check your heartbeat). First, I was asked to lie down on the bed then the nurse checked my tension. Normal. After that, she attached the wires I talked about in my right hand with a bandage. My upper right arm was bound by the equipment to check blood tension, so the blood couldn’t flow through my arm to the palm. I needed to wait for 10 minutes, and I felt the tingling sensation in my right hand during that (as there was no blood there :p). The nurse unbound my upper arm, and I felt the blood flowed in my arm (it’s hot like burning inside, but didn’t hurt). The next thing I told to do was inhale very deeply from my nose and exhale from mouth in 3 minutes. I couldn’t feel my right arm, it felt numb but the nurse said that it was normal. At last, it was over and she pulled the wires from my hand ^^ Waiting for about 2 minutes, my right arm was normal again. The procedure is not painful at all :p But the bad thing about having blood test, EMG, or such tests, is the result. I was diagnosed to have spasmophilia. My physician said that this disease was quite common in children or teens, but I never heard of it =__= It’s not a fatal disease either, but it’s caused by the lack of calcium. I drink a glass of milk everyday since my childhood, how come I have calcium deficiency? @_@
Well, the treatment is just taking calcium tablet everyday (a tablet contain calcium equal with 5 glasses of milk) and 2 other kinds of medicine to eliminate fatigue. I’m in medication right now and hope to get well soon. My message is, preventing is much better than curing!! Start to live healthily and enjoy your lives to get rid of stress ^_^
